It took some time, but I finally found an American comparison to Donawhale. For some people, the name Sanawon or Jenny Choi may sound familiar. Not everything about the two bands mesh one hundred percent, but there is a good amount of similarity between the two.
One major difference is in the vocal delivery, with Donawhale having a more subdued sound. The instrumentation is a little similar, but Donwhale’s music is a bit more layered.
Their self-titled album released in 2007 is a great introduction to the band and their amazing sound. This along with Dive to Blue are perfect night-time listens or at the beach because there isn’t anything annoying or harsh about the music.
Vocals flow like honey and the instrumentals only help in propelling the sound into a great place not heard from anything released in South Korea before.
Donawhale need to be known beyond the borders of the United States because they are that important to music and what the perfect combination of people can created together.
