99Anger was one of the first punk bands I ever heard from South Korea. This album might not stack up to other bands in Korea, but to me it is one of the best releases by any punk band I have ever heard.

Partially because the production on the album sounds raw and the vocalist aren’t sung, but more often screamed at the microphone. The songs all being in English also clued me in that bands in Korea aren’t stuck to singing in Korean.

One of my favorite tracks is “Fucked Up Family,” which carries a slower tempo, but the delivery of the vocals along with the instrumentation is excellent. There’s not another song that I feel grasps the early punk style while being from another country of origin.

99Anger is a perfect place to start for Korean punk and I couldn’t recommend this album more.
