the Hiatus – Insomnia Review

image 4As the Hiatus is a group that came out after the demise of Ellegarden, Trash We’d Love was one of my favorite albums that I’d heard.

Insomnia is a three song EP that wanders from the punk rock influences of Ellegarden and even the rock of Trash We’d Love. The delivery of the vocals has always been one of the reasons why I enjoyed Ellegarden, and the Hiatus are still able to deliver.

But unfortunately with Insomnia, there is something lacking. It feels like the direction of the music was lost and while the songs are good, they lack focus and delivery. There’s an experimental feel to the EP, but at the same time, the songs sound too fragmented.

Evolution of a band’s sound is good, but I wonder if this release was forced rather than honestly worked on.
