It is very difficult to find secure math-rock. The genre is a strange one to be designated into and even more difficult because the classification of math-rock can easily be confused with noise or even punk.
Lite is most definitely a math-rock group. And considering the genre of math-rock in the United States is a difficult one to fill, discovering one from Japan even more impressive. With their 2008, Phantasia, Lite continues to show why they’re one of the best math-rock bands in the world.
Over the eleven songs of technical and pulsing beats, Lite continuously creates music that even rivals The Mars Volta in its density. Lite is a band that deserves more recognition, and their catalog of releases is all amazing.
The songs range from light acoustic tracks to slower, Envy-esque songs. Though the band does best when they are exploring a musical idea, each track has enough variety that it stays interesting.
Phantasia is an excellent release for math-rock fans and Lite is a band that music enthusiasts should give a try.
