I stumbled upon this a little while ago and for me it’s too unbelievable because of the history of this group. Hangry & Angry is a two person group that features Rika Ishikawa and Hitomi Yoshizawa. These names might not be familiar to some, but they used to be part of probably the most famous Japanese girl group, Morning Musume.
For those who don’t know, Morning Musume is how I got into Asian music. A little embarrassing obviously, but I kept up with the group until probably 2006-ish when most of the members I was fond of “graduated” from the group. So when I saw this video of Hangry & Angry, I wasn’t sure what to expect because it just looked like Goth rock.
After seeing the first few seconds, I recognized the pair and thought, how far have they moved away from the image of Morning Musume. Here are some comparison shots from their time in Morning Musume and Hangry & Angry.

Yoshizawa Hitomi

Ishikawa Rika
Before anyone cites the ages of the Morning Musume shots, I purposely used photos that weren’t more of the bikini shots from photobooks and more of the “innocent” image the group promoted through the media.
Hangry & Angry is a group created to promote a store in Harajuku and from the look of the images and clothing style, it’s Gothic Lolita and Punk; but I could be wrong about that and honestly that’s not what’s of interest.
It’s the change in music, which while has some of the tinges of the Jpop that the group sang, it’s much more aggressive than their previous music and with song titles like “Kill Me Kiss Me” and “Sadistic Dance” what other genre could you go for?
It’s great that their vocals are more or less the same just with different backing instrumentals, and seeing this change just makes me laugh and I think it’s awesome.
Now I just need to wait for Girls’ Generation to make subgroups that play screamo.
