국카스텐 (Guckkasten) – Self-Titled Review

by Chris P on 03/23/2010

guckkastenThis album is straight-up awesome. It is very much an album that can’t be judged by its cover with the numerous amount of influences in the sound of the band.

Take the basis of rock, throw in some strange synth additions, and mix in some opera. Dead serious, opera. Based on the delivery of some of the lyrics, it could be considered opera-esque delivery or 80s hair rock, but with some insanely addictive vocals.

The sound of 국카스텐 is a huge mix of different genres and yet is one of the most original bands I’ve heard from Korea. This is an album that creates such a large expectation for a follow-up and is an album that has to be owned by any music fan.
