Halcali – Tokyo Groove Review

Halcali was originally a side project from Ryo-Z of Rip Slyme featuring two girls who previously had no experience with rap. Since then, their sound has evolved from pop rap to more melodic pop and rap mix that still contains the hooks that their original releases had, but they have mellowed since then. Tokyo Groove is a double disc release that features that mix of sound very well.

While I prefer their rap to their pop, the album does have some good tracks on it, but with a double disc there are some average tracks. I’m not sure what direction the duo will ever decide on, the release sounds more like a transition than a focused project. It’s not bad, but their earlier albums showed a lot more potential.
