My introduction to Salyu was through the Japanese movie, All About Lily Chou-Chou, where she supplied the singing voice for the fictional Japanese solo artist. Other the years, she has released some singles and I think an album; but it wasn’t until Maiden Voyage that I was really impressed like from the movie OST.
Her voice is very unique in that it holds a lot of baritone though her range is pretty good. In many ways, the album feels like a trial for different genres, showing that she has a good range of what can be presented with her voice.
I do enjoy her vocals with ballads where she can show her talents though. The biggest draw for the album is that her voice caters to a lot of different genres.
While she probably won’t be recognized as a breakout vocalist, her abilities are superior to other more well-known singers.
