한희정 (Han Heejeong) – 잔혹한 여행 Review

Second to Donawhale, 한희정 was one of the first Korean indie artists that I heard. Even before I knew she was part of Bluedawn, I was impressed by her previous solo releases.

With 잔혹한 여행, she is experimenting a little outside the soloist and working with more realized songs by using other instruments.

The EP is a great listen to see where she is branching out in her music, though it would be nice to hear a fully realized album than an EP. The seven songs on the album are some of the best Korean indie of the year.

While other indie bands have become a little bloated in their songs, 잔혹한 여행 contains a mixture of bare minimum and complex tones in the songs with 한희정 still being one of the focal points in the music.

Her delivery is still among the best with the smooth vocals and it sounds like she could venture into a lot of different genres if she wanted. Indie fans of Bluedawn, her solo work, and the indie genre need to listen to this EP.
