mudy on the 昨晩 – VOI Review

Each time I listen to a release by mudy on the 昨晩 I feel a sense of nostaligia. That’s not to say the music of the band sounds dated, but the sound of the music that the group makes is very distinct and familiar. VOI is from 2008 and I listened to their more recent releases before taking the plunge into it.

VOI is a bit more of an EP than full-length, but the math-rock genre leaves that possibility open for shorter releases still matching the tone of a full-length, something that mudy on the 昨晩 is very good at producing.

The group uses a full band to produce their sounds bases their music in rock while reaching out to other genres inside the songs.

The guitars, bass, and drum kit all feed off on another, pushing the emotion of the music further than most bands will on a recorded release rather than live. It’s technical, but experimental and I wonder if the songs are demoed before they are recorded or just given a skeleton before playing.
