Pop Disaster – Take Action Review

If Ellegarden was the essential Japanese punk band, then Pop Disaster is one of the essential Japanese pop punk bands. In simple terms, they create some of the most high-energy songs while remaining true to what pop punk used to sound like in the United States.

Even though this was released in 2009, compared to the United States, it sounds like it was released in 2002. With the quick tempos and backing vocals on the chorus, Pop Disaster is keeping the genre alive where it has gone and died in the United States.

There isn’t a band that is very similar to Pop Disaster, the band (which features an impressive female drummer) disappeared from my radar for a while before I found this release and then I remembered why they were such a great listen all over again. Pop punk still lives in Japan and I’m glad for that.
