Veltpunch – Black Album Review

It’s funny because I’ve listened to the albums of Veltpunch for a while and I forgot to review anything by them. Their Black Album is one of the newer releases by the band that I know of, and it ranked among my favorite Japanese albums that I forgot to review.

It’s a mix of rock, punk, and experimentation. Their style is similar to Asian Kung-Fu Generation or when Straightener is being a bit more experiential, while Veltpunch don’t have the same extreme tight playing that AKFUG has, they also have a similar dual vocal style as winnie though it’s not as prominent.

Japanese rock recently has appeared to be very experiential or utilizing existing genres in a new way. The Black Album does the latter: creating a high tempo pop rock album that combines a little more punk than would be expected.
