소녀시대 (Girls’ Generation)/少女時代 (Shōjo Jidai) – 1st Japan Album Review

Girls’ Generation is another Korean idol group moving into the music industry of Japan. Arguably one of the most famous Korean girl groups, they took their sound and slightly modified it for Japan.

Their Japanese release contains twelve songs, many of their Korean single re-recorded in Japanese while retaining the same tone of the original. Given that the members have become stronger vocalists, the tone of many of the songs is different from the original.

Other songs on the album recorded for the Japanese market are different from the Korean market because they focus a lot more on bass and synth. These songs aren’t bad at all, they show a different side to the group.

It’s interesting to see Korean pop moving into different Asian territories. Though an American debut is possible, lessons should be learned that it probably wouldn’t work.
