카라 (Kara) – Step Review

It appears that 카라’s time in Japan has influenced their music into Korea. Their new album Step has a lot of Japanese pop influence with the backing instrumentals favoring a more electronic and “jpop” sound than their previous releases.

While they still maintain a Korean pop style, the album is a little more dance pop and features fewer ballads than a standard Kpop release would normally have. Not that this is a negative, in my opinion, Step is a good evolution to the group, though their songs sound and look tailored to the choreography of some kind of “hit” dance move.

Step might be a mixture of Korean and Japanese pop, but it doesn’t favor either over another and that is how it works the best. Kara is still Kpop, but they are sounding a bit different.
