적적해서 그런지 (JuckJuck GRUNZIE) – Soundchecking Review

I was introduced to two members of 적적해서 그런지 my first night in Hongdae during my visit. I never heard of the band before and they graciously gave me a copy of their EP released in May 2011, but recorded in 2010. I was told that their style of music had changed from the EP, but I should take a listen.

From listening to the EP, I think any of the members could kick my ass.

Soundchecking is a mixture of grunge, alternative, and garage rock over five songs. The EP contains a lot of variety in the arrangements of the music. Using fast and slow tempos, the release comes off with a lot of attitude and there is a feeling that the band is playing their style without worrying about what people will think about it.

It’s impressive because aside from the mixture of Korean and English, the EP could be easily have been release in the United States. The group play with a great amount of emotion that shows over the songs. Soundchecking is a great EP and even if the band kept playing the mixture of styles, they would be impressive.

Soundchecking infuses a lot of energy in five songs and worth the listen.
